How to Read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen Online

Jane Austen began writing the novel, "First Impression," which later became "Pride and Prejudice," in October 1796. The novel was completed in August of the following year but not published until 1813. Austen reworked her novel "First Impression" in 1811, after her first publishing success of "Sense and Sensibility" in October of the same year. Several literary websites have reproduced "Pride and Prejudice" and the novel is available to download or read on-screen for free.

      Go on the Internet and type in "Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen" into any of the on-screen search engines.

      Select a website from the on-screen list. Several websites provide literature about Jane Austen and her life and times. Some sites also have a summarized version of the novel.

      Pick the format you want to view the novel from the website. A small format choice screen is usually on the right of the website page. Some websites will allow you to read on-screen, but various formats may be downloaded if you want to print a copy of the novel.

      Click "Download" and wait for the file to be transferred to your computer. After the file has downloaded, an in-screen window will pop up and ask if you want to open the file. Click "Open" and the novel will appear onscreen.
