> I ACCIDENTALLY VAPORIZED MY PRE-ALGEBRA TEACHER.
> It's not something you forget, even if you're a twelve-year-old dyslexic with ADHD, like me. I mean, most teachers weren't all that exciting anyway, except for Mrs. Dodds, who was a real buzzkill. For one thing, she wore these black, pointy shoes that clicked whenever she walked down the hallway. For another, her eyes reminded me of a hawk. She had a way of looking at me like she could see right through my skull.
> Mrs. Dodds was also the only teacher who had ever made me feel bad about my ADHD. "Percy," she'd say, "you would do much better if you just tried to focus."
> I always wanted to tell her that I tried to focus, but my brain was just wired differently. I mean, when you have a brain like mine, it's like having a thousand different radio stations all broadcasting at once. It wasn't just one station, it was all of them, each one louder than the last.
> But I never said any of that. I just sat in the back of her class, daydreaming about all the things I'd rather be doing than learning about the quadratic formula.
