Where did Sumerian writing begin?

Sumerian writing began in the ancient city of Uruk, located in southern Mesopotamia (present-day Iraq). Uruk was one of the earliest urban centers in human history and is considered the birthplace of Sumerian civilization. The development of writing in Uruk is associated with the emergence of complex urban societies and the need for record-keeping, administrative control, and communication.
