Why does Jocasta say to Oedipus Who thou art mayst never know?

Jocasta does not say that to Oedipus but Oedipus says it to her when he declares that neither she nor he will ever fully understand who he is due to the terrible secret surrounding his birth and life story, which only Apollo knows for himself because the Gods never speak directly to men.
