What does in contribute to the Shakespeare myth?

In plays such as _Much Ado About nothing_ and _The Merchant of Venice_, Shakespeare draws upon the popular antisemitic stereotype of the Jewish moneylender or usurer to create Shylock, a hateful, greedy, and manipulative Jewish character who is ultimately defeated and humiliated.

Furthermore, the portrayal of Jews such as Shylock contributed to the negative perception of Jews in English society. This perception endured as other authors and playwrights continued to use these negative archetypes to shape their Jewish characters.
