In the story Oedipus Why did jocasta hang herself?

In Sophocles' tragedy "Oedipus Rex," Jocasta does not hang herself. Instead, she takes her own life by stabbing herself with a brooch after discovering the truth about Oedipus's parentage and his unwitting patricide and incest.
