Who is Jimmer Fredette?

James Taft Fredette (born February 25, 1989) is an American professional basketball player for the Shanghai Sharks of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA). He played college basketball for the Brigham Young University Cougars. He was projected as a first-round pick in the 2011 NBA draft, but was drafted with the 10th overall pick in the second round by the Milwaukee Bucks. He has also played for the Sacramento Kings, Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, and Denver Nuggets.

Fredette was born in Glens Falls, New York, and grew up in Amsterdam, New York. He attended Glens Falls High School, where he was a standout basketball player. He was named the New York State Player of the Year as a senior in 2007, and was recruited to play for Brigham Young University.

Fredette had a successful career at BYU, where he became one of the most prolific scorers in NCAA history. He finished his career with 2,599 points, which ranks third in BYU history and 20th in NCAA Division I history. He was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year twice, and was a consensus second-team All-American in 2011.

After his senior year at BYU, Fredette was drafted 10th overall in the second round of the 2011 NBA draft by the Milwaukee Bucks. He played two seasons with the Bucks before being traded to the Sacramento Kings in 2013. He spent one season with the Kings, then played for the Chicago Bulls, New Orleans Pelicans, New York Knicks, Phoenix Suns, and Denver Nuggets before joining the Shanghai Sharks in 2021.

Fredette is known for his excellent three-point shooting. He has shot over 40% from three-point range in each of his NBA seasons. He is also a good passer and ball-handler.

Fredette has represented the United States at several international competitions. He won a gold medal with the U.S. team at the 2011 Pan American Games, and was a member of the U.S. team that won the 2013 FIBA World Cup.
