The theme of Field of Dreams is the power of faith and belief in oneself. Protagonist Ray Kinsella is instructed to build a baseball field on his farm, and if he does so, the ghost of Shoeless Joe Jackson will appear. Despite the doubt and skepticism of others, Ray builds the field, and Jackson appears, along with other ghostly members of the 1919 Chicago White Sox team. The film explores themes of family, friendship, and the importance of following one's dreams.
