Is the movie Jeremiah Johnson historically correct?

Jeremiah Johnson is loosely based on the life of John Jeremiah Garrison (1822–1891), a mountain man who spent much of his life in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The movie is not a historical documentary and takes many liberties with the facts of Garrison's life. For example, in the movie, Jeremiah is raised by Native Americans and becomes a skilled tracker and hunter. In reality, Garrison was born in Pennsylvania and did not meet Native Americans until he was an adult. Additionally, the movie portrays Jeremiah as a peaceful man who is forced to fight when his family is threatened. In reality, Garrison was known to be a violent man and was involved in several gunfights.

Despite the historical inaccuracies, Jeremiah Johnson is a classic Western film that is enjoyed by many people. It is a well-made film with great acting, cinematography, and music. The film also captures the spirit of the American West and the way of life of the mountain men.
