Set up bins containing rocks, soil, and seeds, respectively. Allow children to play with the materials in the bins while you talk about the miracle of growth and what plants need. Explain to them that life only flourishes under certain conditions. Supervise each child in planting a seed in the good soil. Relate the hands0on activity to the Biblical passage discussing the Parable of the Sower.
Some children may respond better to an animated video story. As with many other of the Bible's most famous parables, there are several video versions of the Parable of the Sower available for instruction and enjoyment. A Parable of the Sower video is included in the Animated Bible Series, which is available for free on YouTube.
Create a display of various fruits with their corresponding seeds beside them. Ask children how something so large and nourishing can come from just a tiny seed. Encourage children to eat the fruit for added participation and enjoyment of the activity.
