How to Create Character Ideas for Profit

Creating exciting original characters requires a good imagination and understanding of human nature. Taking these character ideas and turning them into profit is slightly harder to do. Most publishers, producers and others who may be interested in purchasing the characters often want more than a character outline. A story or synopsis of a story goes a long way into making the character more viable. Still just the character alone can be enough, if the character is strong.

Instructions

    • 1

Create some original characters. The best characters are the ones that are most personal to the author. Develop the characters. Create back stories for the characters and give them a character analysis. A short story or example of how the character behaves or responds in different situations gives examples of the characters traits.

    • 2

Have an artist draw up some sketches of the character. The sketches will help others visualize the character.

    • 3

Pitch the characters to producers, writers and publishers. Contact established players who would be interested in developing this character. Characters can be used in film, TV and literature. Submit all the information about the character. Include information about why this character should be developed.

    • 4

Write a story for the character. A character alone may not be enough to garner interest, but a story may. Write a film script, TV pilot or story involving the character. The story will help attract attention to the character.

    • 5

Pitch the character to corporations and advertising agencies. The character may be perfect for an advertisement or brand ambassador. Advertisers may be more willing to pay for just the character alone.
