Pride: Oedipus is a proud and arrogant individual. He has a high opinion of himself and his abilities. He does not want to believe that he could have committed such a heinous crime.
Confusion: The information that Teiresias reveals is shocking and unexpected. Oedipus has difficulty comprehending and accepting the truth. He tries to rationalize and explain away the evidence that points to him as the murderer.
Disbelief: Oedipus finds it difficult to believe that he could have unknowingly killed his father and married his mother. These truths go against everything he knew about himself and his life history.
Lack of Evidence: Although teiresias speaks convincingly , he cannot immediately show evidence of Oedipus crimes other than his prophesy which Oedipus questions . These factors contribute to Oedipus initial doubt about this revelations made by the prophet Teiresias.
