In the magical world of Harry Potter, wands are necessary tools for wizards and witches, are unique to each character and crucial to magical performance.
  1. Function

    • Wands are used to perform and, most importantly, control, magical acts such as casting spells.

    Size

    • Wands range in size according to a witch or wizard's height, the largest known wand being 16 inches (Hagrid's).

    Types

    • Wands are made of wood, such as vinewood, willow, yew and holly, with a magical item in the core, such as dragon heartstring, unicorn tail hair or phoenix feather.

    History

    • Wands choose the wizard, and no two are the same, most having been created by Britain's finest wand-maker, Mr. Ollivander.

    Fun Fact

    • Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort have sibling wands, each containing a feather from a phoenix named Fawkes.
