What did marlon brando read in apocalypse now?

Marlon Brando's character, Colonel Walter E. Kurtz, doesn't read anything in "Apocalypse Now." He is portrayed as a reclusive, enigmatic figure who has retreated into the depths of the jungle, driven mad by the horrors of war.

The film itself, however, is deeply influenced by Joseph Conrad's novella "Heart of Darkness." This is reflected in the film's themes of colonialism, the corrupting influence of power, and the descent into savagery.

While Kurtz doesn't read in the film, his character and the film's themes are directly inspired by Conrad's work, which can be seen as a kind of "reading" in itself.
