Did Charles Dickens have any brothers or sisters?

Charles Dickens was one of eight children born to John and Elizabeth Dickens. He had three brothers and four sisters:

- His eldest brother, James Dickens (1809-1862) was a journalist and editor who worked for Charles' periodical All the Year Round.

- His second eldest brother, Alfred Dickens (1810-1837) worked for the navy as a purser, which involved being in charge of the ship's supplies and finances.

- His younger brother, Augustus Dickens (1827–1866), was a barrister who worked in India for many years.

- His eldest sister, Fanny Dickens (1810-1848), was a writer who published poetry and short stories. She died of consumption at the age of 38.

- His second eldest sister, Letitia Dickens (1812-1893) married and had many children, but sadly, lost her husband at a young age.

- His third eldest sister, Harriet Dickens (1819–1824), died when she was just four years old.

- His youngest sister, Dora Dickens (1820-1851) married and had children but also passed away at a young age, succumbing to tuberculosis at the age of 30.
