How to Have Fun When You're Snowed In

Snow days may make parents groan and children feel antsy (especially after the initial excitement of not having to go to school for the day wears off). When you're snowed in and can't leave your home due to the snow piling up outdoors, you may experience a little bit of cabin fever and boredom. Learn how to enjoy yourself despite the fact that you're trapped inside.

Instructions

Take out some board games. If you're looking for relaxing fun for the entire family, board games are the way to go, whether you're 8 or 48 years old. Bust out some classic board games that will surely keep you entertained for hours despite the snow, such as Monopoly, Scrabble, Life, chess and Risk.

Bake some sweet treats. Baking can be a cozy and warm way for you to revel in the winter glory. It also can be a fun way to put a quick smile on the faces of any children who may reside in your household. Make anything from oatmeal muffins and chocolate chip cookies to banana bread and cinnamon rolls. Be creative and use any ingredients that you already have in your refrigerator and kitchen cabinets (as you most likely won't be able to take a quick jaunt down to the grocery store in the heavy snow). For additional excitement, get your children to help you.

Play outside in the snow. If you can make it out the front door, take advantage of the majestic wintry beauty by engaging in some old fashioned fun, whether you have a snowball fight, make snow angels with the outline of your body or build a snowman, complete with a carrot nose and scarf. These activities can be fun to do with your children, significant other or even with some of your closest neighbors. For even more fun, organize a competition to see who can construct the sturdiest and largest snowman.

Put together a scrapbook. Take advantage of your snow day downtime by taking a walk down memory lane. Browse through some old photo albums and compile a selection of some of your favorite pictures. Then create a scrapbook. If you want, consider using it as an upcoming gift for someone you care about.

Watch movies. There is no better excuse to plop down on the sofa and watch DVDs than being snowed in. Have a marathon of some of your preferred classic romances or action flicks. Further your cinematic experience by enjoying a little bit of popcorn, movie theater style.

Curl up with a nice novel. Life can be busy and it can seem almost impossible to find the time to read. Dig out a book you've been meaning to finish for a while and read it while tucked away in your bed or snuggled up on the living room couch.
