About GI Joe Comics

In addition to being an internationally recognized brand of action figures, GI Joe is also a very popular comic book series. With more than 30 sub-series and hundreds of issues under its belt, the GI Joe Comic book series has been around for more than 25 years, and its various spin-offs are still published today.
  1. Main Series

    • The most prevalent GI Joe comic book series is "A Real American Hero," which was published by Marvel for 155 issues, and it is considered by most fans to be the "main" GI Joe series.

    Spin-Off Series

    • There are more than 20 GI Joe spin-off series, most of which consist of under 10 issues. However, there are a few popular spin-offs, including Rise of Cobra, GI Joe: Special Missions, GI Joe: America's Elite, GI Joe and crossover series, GI Joe vs. the Transformers.

    Main Characters

    • Although each series and sub-series has its own characters, GI Joe has several main characters who appear frequently throughout the comic, including Cobra, Snake Eyes, Zartan and Scarlett.

    Publishers

    • GI Joe has had numerous publishers over it's nearly 30-year history, including Marvel, Dark Horse, Devil's Due, Blackthorn and Benchpress.

    Manga

    • In addition to the American comics, a Japanese-style manga has been produced that is based off of the Spy Troops direct-to-DVD release.
