How to Make a Flip Booklet

Flip booklets are basic examples of stop motion animation. Slightly varied pictures are bound in succession and give the illusion of movement when the pages are turned, or flipped through, quickly. Flip booklets have been used for entertainment since 1868 and use either photographs or drawings for graphics. They are relatively easy to create on your own in just a few steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Decide on an image you wish to use. Draw the first position of this image on a piece of paper.

    • 2

Draw the same image on the remaining pieces of paper. Each drawing should show a small change in the image's position.

    • 3

Place the drawings in order. The image's first position should be the first page, and it's last position, the final page.

    • 4

Staple the pages together along the left side of the paper.

    • 5

Hold the left side of the booklet firmly in your left hand. Use your right hand to flip through the pages, creating an animation.
