Interview 11 children from various backgrounds and of different ages. Ask the children questions pertaining to their favorite and least favorite subjects in school. Ask their likes and dislikes. Find out their favorite and least favorite foods.
Include questions about what they like learning about, what their hobbies are, how they have fun and what is the funniest thing that has happened to them.
Review your interview answers and choose a writing subject that the children were most passionate about.
Create a problem around the subject that you chose. Write about the problem in the story using language easily understood by the child.
Create a character that has the problem. Introduce the character in the story. Give the character personality traits that your subjects favored the most.
Create a journey your character follows to resolve the problem. Introduce suspense and guessing into the story so that the child can use her imagination.
Write a clear solution to resolve the problem that your character faces. Write how your character uses the solution to resolve the problem.
