Spend one or two hours developing your writing schedule. Specify on an online or paper calendar which hours you will write each day. Set aside as much time as possible each day to write. List all major tasks you need to complete each day, and then track your progress at the end of the day to make certain you're staying on track.
Spend two to three days developing a detailed synopsis of the main storyline of your novel. Include all major scenes in your synopsis, and note the point of view used in each scene. Explain both the events that happen in each scene and the reactions of the characters to these events.
Include in the synopsis the goals and motivations for all of your major characters. Develop plot events that incorporate these goals and motivations. Decide on the inciting incident that gets the story going, each major plot point and turning point of the story, the crisis at the end that brings the plot to a climax and the conclusion. Divide your synopsis into chapters so that you're ready to start writing.
Spend one to two days weaving the subplots into your synopsis. Verify that your subplots help with the overall development of your main plot. Decide how your subplot scenes will be interspersed in your book next to the main plot scenes.
Spend 13 to 14 days writing a rough draft of your novel. Refer to your synopsis as you write, but change the synopsis as needed if better ideas come to you. Don't edit or revise your writing as you go. Just keep writing, and move to a new scene if you get stuck. Return to the previous scene later to flesh it out.
Spend five to six days revising your rough draft. Read through the entire book, paying attention to each scene individually. Look for areas where you can make improvements. Try reading the writing aloud as a way to spot problem areas such as awkward dialogue or lengthy descriptions.
Spend two to three days editing your revised manuscript. At this point, check for grammar and punctuation errors. Look for ways to smooth the writing and polish it. Read the entire book once again to verify that it flows.
