How to Publish Comics Online

With the advent of the internet, would-be comic book creators have a nearly limitless canvas for creativity and experimentation for their sequential storytelling. While print comics are forced to conform to the page dimensions and page count, online comics have no such limitations. Another advantage of online comics is the distribution; anyone anywhere with Internet access can read comics online. Those who want to read print comics have to track them down in person, or order them from an online retailer. With all that in mind, why wouldn't you want to publish your comics online?

Instructions

  1. Do it Yourself

    • 1

Convert your comic book to digital .jpg files at 72dpi no wider than 800 pixels and no taller than 600 pixels using photo editing software such as Photoshop, Fireworks or Adobe Illustrator. Save these files in a new folder on your computer for easy access. TIFs, PDFs, PNGs and other file types are often too large for online applications and cause slow download times for readers.

    • 2

Upload your comic page(s) to your website just as you would any other image file. You can upload the entire comic all at once, or simply choose to upload a page a day or a page a week or however you want to update it to keep readers coming back for more. It's best to create a new page on your site for each new comic page.

    • 3

Continue to create and upload more comic pages in order to keep readers coming back to your online comic website. Spread the word about your online comic through any online social media sites you frequent to bring in new readers.

Spread the word about your new comic through your social media outlets and on the hosted sites forums. The hosted site's forums are also a great place to get pointers and feedback from other online comic creators.
