How to Configure a Bar Code on Myidentifiers.com

If you want to publish and sell your own book, you need to purchase an International Standard Book Number (ISBN). You will then turn this 13-digit number into a bar code that will be printed on your book and that retailers will scan when a customer decides to buy the book. In the U.S., R.R. Bowker LLC is the sole official ISBN provider. When ordering an ISBN on R.R. Bowker's website, you can generate your bar code and customize it by adding a recommended retail price.

Instructions

    • 1

Login to your R.R. Bowker account by clicking on the "My Account" button. You can find a link to that page in the Resources section of this article.

    • 2

Click on the ISBN number that you want to use to generate and customize a bar code.

    • 3

Click on the "Generate" button next to "Barcode Manager." This will take you to the bar code customization page.

    • 4

Type in a recommended retail price in the "Publication price" field.

    • 5

Click on the "Generate" button to generate your new bar code.

    • 6

Click on the "Download" link at the bottom right of the page to download your new bar code as an ".eps" image file, which you can then send to your printing company or designer.
