Who is Susan Alcott Jardine?

Susan Alcott Jardine is a British historian, author, and professor. She holds the David O. McKay Endowed Chair of History at Utah State University, where she has taught since 1994. She specializes in the history of the American West, particularly the 19th-century Mormon experience in the Intermountain West.

Susan Alcott Jardine was born on November 19, 1954, in London, England. She grew up in a Mormon family and attended Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1976. She then went on to earn a Master of Arts degree in history from the University of Utah in 1978 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1985.

After completing her doctorate, Jardine taught history at several universities, including BYU and the University of San Diego. In 1994, she joined the faculty at Utah State University, where she is now a full professor and holds the David O. McKay Endowed Chair of History.

Jardine's research and writing have focused on the history of the American West, particularly the Mormon experience in the Intermountain West. Her publications include the following books:
