_Anster Fair_, published in 1812, is a long poem in ottava rima, written in the Scots language. The poem is set in and around the town of Anstruther, Fife, and tells the story of a local farmer, Habbie, who falls in love with Maggie Lauder. The poem is a light-hearted and humorous look at Scottish life and culture, and is considered one of the best examples of Scots poetry.
Tennant's other works include the poems *Papistry Stormed* (1827) and *The Thane of Fife* (1822), as well as the novel *The Dingy House of Airlie; or, the Miser's Daughter* (1822). He also wrote a number of religious and theological works, including *The Biblical Picture Gallery*, published in 1841.
Tennant was a prolific and versatile writer, and his works are a valuable contribution to Scottish literature. He is best remembered for his poem *Anster Fair*, which is considered one of the best examples of Scots poetry.
