Sigmund Mendelsohn (February 16, 1910 – October 10, 1982) was an American novelist and short-story writer. He was the son of the Austrian-born rabbi Samuel Felix Mendelsohn and the American-born Clara (Leschinsky) Mendelsohn. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1933 and later worked for the Works Progress Administration (WPA).

Mendelsohn's first novel, Tender as Is the Night, was published in 1934. The book tells the story of a young man who is coming to terms with his homosexuality. Mendelsohn's other novels include The People vs. O'Hara (1935), The Lost Generation (1936), and The House Divided (1938).

In addition to his novels, Mendelsohn also wrote short stories, essays, and reviews. His work has been praised for its realism, its insights into human nature, and its compassion.
