Authors Similar to Charlaine Harris

After the debut of the television show "True Blood," Charlaine Harris went from being a mildly popular writer to the wildly popular inventor of Sookie Stackhouse, Bill Compton and all the other characters in the series. Harris' breezy style of writing combined with likeable, quirky characters have made her a fan favorite. If you love Charlaine Harris' writing but have finished reading all of her current works, try a new author with a similar style of writing to hold you over until the next Sookie Stackhouse novel is published.
  1. MaryJanice Davidson

    • MaryJanice Davidson's writing style is so close to Charlaine Harris' that they could be sisters. Fast-paced action, vampires, quirky characters, humor and sarcasm with an underlying heroine who just means to do well are the hallmarks of both these authors. Davidson's most popular main character, Betsy Taylor has been turned into a vampire, but she's still a fashionable woman with a thing for sexy shoes.

    Janet Evanovich

    • Although there are no supernatural beings in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum novels, the writing style and the feel of the novels are very much the same. There is a female lead character who always gets into predicaments not of her own choosing. The writing is filled with humor, and each novel is a quick read without you having to invest days to finish a story. Evanovich is known for being funny, more so than Harris, but the subject matter, chasing crazy crooks, is lighter than that of vampires, were-panthers and shape-shifters.

    Sue Grafton

    • Sue Grafton writes a series of novels set in California in the mid 1980s. Her hero, Kinsey Millhone, is a private eye with a bad record when it comes to relationships. Grafton's series of novels has a similar feel to Harris', with a strong female lead, multiple recurring characters and a mystery to deal with in every book.

    Madelyn Alt

    • Madelyn Alt has authored a series of books about Maggie O'Niell, who takes a job in an antiques shop and discovers witches and supernatural mysteries. There are recurring characters, paranormal problems, murders to solve and lives to straighten out. While not as well known as Charlaine Harris, Madelyn Alt has made a good beginning into the light paranormal genre.
