Who invented shehnai?

The origin of the shehnai is not precisely known, but it is believed to have evolved from a similar double-reed instrument called the _murli_ in ancient India, which was used in folk and classical music. The shehnai as it is known today is thought to have been developed during the medieval period in India and was popularly associated with the royal courts and temples of the Indian subcontinent.
