Place the protective wear to your hands and eyes. Apply adhesive glue to a rag.
Smear a thin layer of glue all over the surface of the ball. Allow the glue 10 to 15 minutes to become tacky -- sticky to the touch.
Spread a thin layer of sand to the surface of a board or flat surface. Roll the ball around in the sand so as to cover the entire ball. Allow ball 3 to 4 hours to dry.
Apply thin-set to a rag. Repeat Step 2. Allow ball 2 to 3 hours to dry.
Make a design to your liking on the ball. The design can include parallel lines, squares, triangles or anything you want. Be creative. Sketch your designs to the ball's surface.
Apply thin-set to the underside of tile pieces. Stick the tile pieces to your design. Work in small sections because the ball is round allowing the tile take shape to it. Give each section time to dry before turning the ball to another side. Do not worry about small cracks or spaces between the tile pieces for the moment. Allow the ball to dry overnight.
Pour 1/2 cup of grout into a bucket and mix with water until it has the consistency of cake batter. Use your fingers to apply the grout to the spaces between the tile pieces covering the entire ball. Let ball dry for 30 minutes.
Dip the sponge into a cup of water. Squeeze the sponge to damp touch. Wipe away the grout from the ball. The sponge will only remove a small layer of the grout build up. Let the ball dry for 20 to 30 minutes.
Wet a rag with vinegar and wipe away any grout residue.
