Art Projects of Futuristic Building Out of Recycled Materials

One person's trash is another person's artistic treasure. Consider donating your broken appliances, computers, VCR and other useless household objects to a school's art department or use it to create your own art. Sculptures can be created from mainly recycled items, making them an inexpensive way to explore your creativity.
  1. Steampunk Buildings

    • Gather broken appliances, car parts, tools, boxes and other recycled items from your home. Start a collection at your school to get a wider variety of items to work with. Take large items apart. Arrange the parts to make buildings, factories and other places. Use strong glue, nails or wire to attach the pieces together. You can set aside an area to create a futuristic town. Place the buildings on a large table or sheet of plywood. Embellish as desired with paint and other art materials.

    Digitally Enhanced

    • Follow in the footsteps of Canadian artist, David Trautrimas. His futuristic buildings are created from old treasures found in thrift shops and garage sales. Appliances such as waffle makers, oil cans, vacuums, heaters anything with an interesting shape or design. He takes the items apart, if possible, and then photographs each piece against a neutral background. The objects are then reassembled on the computer into futuristic styled buildings. The buildings are then placed over a background image taken from places around his home of Toronto. He has created apartment buildings, homes and several futuristic industrial buildings.

    Futuristic Home Contest

    • Challenge a group of children, in a family, classroom or club setting, to build a futuristic home for marshmallow people. Draw faces on regular sized marshmallows, attach mini marshmallow arms if desired. Build a home with recyclable material such as paper towel rolls, water bottles, cardboard, yogurt containers, newspaper, aluminum foil and other discards. Encourage the participants to build a home using at least three different kinds of material. It is best to start with a strong base and measure the rooms against the size of the marshmallow people. Award points for the tallest, most stable, most rooms, etc.
