The character of Pinocchio first appeared in serial form in the Italian children's weekly magazine Giornale per i bambini on July 7, 1881, under the title The Story of a Puppet (Storia di un burattino).
The story became very popular and was published as a book with the title The Adventures of Pinocchio in 1883.
