1. West Coast of North America: In 1577-78, Drake charted the west coast of North America, reaching present-day California and Oregon. He landed in what he called "Nova Albion," possibly near modern-day San Francisco, becoming the first English navigator to visit North America's western coast.
2. Pacific Ocean: Drake sailed across the Pacific Ocean after leaving North America, becoming one of the first Europeans to venture into this vast region. He encountered numerous islands on his journey and explored the waters of the South Pacific.
3. Spice Islands (Maluku Islands): Drake aimed to reach the Spice Islands in Southeast Asia, which were controlled by Spain and Portugal at the time. He arrived at the Maluku Islands and traded for spices, including cloves and nutmeg.
4. Cape of Good Hope: After leaving the Spice Islands, Drake sailed around the Cape of Good Hope at the southern tip of Africa. He was aiming to complete a circumnavigation of the world by returning to England.
5. Atlantic Ocean: Drake continued his journey across the Atlantic Ocean, passing Brazil and crossing the equator before finally returning to England.
