What happens to the Sphinx in

In the classic Greek myth, the Sphinx is defeated by Oedipus when he correctly answers her riddle. It throws itself from Mount Phikion in despair. Some variants of the story have it devoured by Oedipus; or that it tore itself apart or simply vanished after its defeat.
