What inspired candyman?

The Candyman legend is said to have originated in the late 19th century in the United States. According to the legend, Candyman is the vengeful spirit of a man who was brutally murdered for being black. He returns to haunt the places where he was wronged, seeking revenge on those who caused him harm.

There are several different versions of the Candyman legend, but most share the following key elements:

* Candyman is a tall, thin man with a hook for a hand.

* He wears a long black coat and a hat.

* He appears to people who say his name five times in a mirror.

* Candyman kills those who have wronged him with his hook.

Over the years, the Candyman legend has been adapted into several films, television shows, and other works of fiction. The most famous adaptation is the 1992 film Candyman, which starred Tony Todd as the title character.
