Making Scary Sounds

Scary sounds fill us with fright and make spooky holidays like Halloween much more thrilling. Scary noises will add a dimension of fright to your decorated porch, classroom or home. Whether you wish to host your own haunted house or need background sounds for a scary party, make your own frightening sounds by using things from your own home. If you want to cast the sound to a larger area, then make your scary sounds in front of a microphone connected to your stereo system. With a little practice, you can make scary noises that will scare most anyone.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn on your stereo system and perform a microphone check. Tap or speak into the microphone, testing it for feedback and volume control. When you are satisfied with the volume and quality of the sound, gather your materials.

    • 2

Breathe into the microphone slowly and loudly. Moan and whimper a little, as a ghost might.

    • 3

Hold a small piece of board close to the microphone. Knock on the wood. Scrap the wood slowly with a garden trowel. You might say, "Let me out," as if you were trapped inside a coffin.

    • 4

Pick up a heavy chain and shake it a few times.

    • 5

Slide two shoes with hard bottoms on your hands. "Walk" the shoes across the board making footstep sounds.

    • 6

Put dried macaroni in a wooden box and shake it back and forth. This sounds like bones in a box.

    • 7

Make ghost noises with a friend or two. A trio of moaning, scary voices is frightful.
