1. Rags/Fabric Strips /No Heat Curls
- Wash and condition your hair.
- Towel dry your hair until it's damp but not dripping.
- Section your hair into small, 1-inch wide strands.
- Wrap a small section of hair tightly around a finger or pencil in the desired curl direction.
- Tie a small piece of rag, fabric strip, or hair tie around the bottom of the curl to hold it in place.
- Repeat this step for all sections of your hair.
- Allow your hair to dry completely, or use a hair dryer on low heat to speed up the process.
- Once your hair is dry, carefully unroll the rags.
- Fluff your hair with your fingers to soften the curls.
2. Headbands/ Hairbands/ Sock Buns
- Wash and condition your hair.
- Towel dry your hair until it's damp but not dripping.
- Apply a small amount of curl cream or styling product to your hair.
- Section your hair into 2-4 equal parts.
- Wrap each section of hair around a soft headband or hairband, starting at the ends and working your way up.
- Secure the headband or hairband in place.
- Repeat this step for all sections of your hair.
- Allow your hair to dry completely, or use a hair dryer on low heat to speed up the process.
- Once your hair is dry, gently remove the headbands.
- Fluff your hair with your fingers to soften the curls.
3. Bantu Knots
- Wash and condition your hair.
- Towel dry your hair until it's damp but not dripping.
- Apply a small amount of curl cream or styling product to your hair.
- Section your hair into small, 1-2-inch squares.
- Gather a small section of hair and twist it tightly around itself, starting at the ends and working your way up.
- Wrap the twisted section of hair into a knot, tucking the ends inside.
- Repeat this step for all sections of your hair.
- Allow your hair to dry completely, or use a hair dryer on low heat to speed up the process.
- Once your hair is dry, gently untie the knots.
- Fluff your hair with your fingers to soften the curls.
4. Braid Out/ Twist Out/ Plaits
- Wash and condition your hair.
- Towel dry your hair until it's damp but not dripping.
- Apply a small amount of curl cream or styling product to your hair.
- Section your hair into 3-4 equal parts.
- Braid or twist each section of hair, starting at the ends and working your way up.
- Secure the braids or twists with hair ties.
- Allow your hair to dry completely, or use a hair dryer on low heat to speed up the process.
- Once your hair is dry, gently untie the braids or twists.
- Fluff your hair with your fingers to soften the curls.
5. Heatless Spiral Curls
- Wash and condition your hair.
- Towel dry your hair until it's damp but not dripping.
- Apply a small amount of curl cream or styling product to your hair.
- Section your hair into four equal parts.
- Take one section of hair, pull it up straight so it makes a 90-degree angle with your head, and split it in two at the ends.
- Taking one subsection at a time, tightly wrap it around two fingers of one hand, keeping it perpendicular to your head. Continue the whole length of your hair.
- Repeat for the remaining strand.
- Hold them together as you slowly curl them upward into a "cinnamon bun" shape, twisting it more as you go until it reaches the top of your head. Coil it around itself and secure with a claw clip.
-Repeat this step for all sections of your hair.
-Allow your hair to dry completely, or use a hair dryer on low heat to speed up the process.
- Once your hair is dry, carefully unclip the cinnamon buns.
-Fluff your hair with your fingers to soften the curls.
6. Diffuser Method
- Wash and condition your hair.
- Towel dry your hair until it's damp but not dripping.
- Apply a generous amount of curl cream that has a strong hold to your hair, from mid-hair to ends.
- Attach the diffuser to your blow dryer and start diffusing your hair upside down, focusing on the ends of your curls first, keeping the diffuser constantly moving.
- Continue diffusing till it is almost completely dry. Do not touch your hair until it's completely dry.
_Tip: Scrunch your hair when completely dry to prevent breakage and frizz._
7. Flexi Rods
- Prep your hair by adding leave in conditioner and sealing with a little bit of gel.
- Section your hair. Use about a 1 1/2 inch or smaller section of hair for tighter curls and a larger section of hair for looser curls.
- Wrap a small section around the center of a flexi rod.
- Repeat until all your hair is wrapped.
- Sleep with rods in your hair.
- Remove rods in the morning by gently unrolling each section.
- Fluff your hair out with your hands.
