Art Deco Rubber Stamp Ideas

Art Deco rubber stamps bring back the elegant sophistication of the Art Deco movement. Formed in the 1920s “as a modernist’s reaction against the Art Nouveau style,” Art Deco changed decorative arts, design, fashion, architecture and everyday things. Art Deco rubber stamps will feature sleek, straight angular lines and geometric forms meshed with blocks of bold elements.
  1. Scarves

    • Art Deco style influenced high fashion of the 1920s to early 1940s. Creating an Art Deco silk scarf recaptures the jazz-inspired era. Fringed ends on a silk scarf are suggestive of the flapper dress.

Abstract or symmetrical geometric pattern complements a scarf when stamped along its length. An arrangement of square or circular motifs in a combination of thick and thin lines reflects the architectural elements found in Art Deco as seen in the Empire State building or Rockefeller Center.

Designs such as Erte’s "The Tempest" or "The Golden Calf" work in twos or threes as edged borders on a scarf. Contrasting black colored silk with rhinestones makes a modish scarf.

    Beads, Pendants and Brooches

    • Exotic wood beads need a smooth texture. Stamping the wood with an Art Deco accent complements a beaded or metal-finished jewelry piece and keeps in line with the movement’s stylishness.

Art Deco markings stamped or pressed into polymer or precious metal clay can be composed as pendants, brooches or tiles for bracelets.

Achieve the most visual impact by cropping the composition to feature its sharp linear shapes and bold patterns. Stylized representations of women and nature-based designs work for a focal piece. Delicate jewelry pieces such as earrings need Art Deco styled curves and fan shapes.

Outline or color the entire motif in permanent solvent inks using a contrasting color palette of silver and cobalt blue. When crafting jewelry, experiment with the “industrial materials” of the era – chrome, plastic and glass. Follow period color trends with canary yellow and peacock blue or silver, gold or blue metallics.

    Plates

    • Pastel or whitish ceramic plates adorned with vibrant Art Deco colors should be on display or as table settings. Repeat a border design with sweeping curves like an Art Deco sunburst along the outer edges or stamp an elaborate rose design at its center.

Take poppy and tree motifs or stylized fashion ideas from vintage Art Deco posters, stage costumes and architecture. Plates can be displayed atop shelves, in glass front cabinets on plate easels.

Design stamped plates for romantic dinners or 1920s-to-1940s-themed parties with representational black and white printed Art Deco designs to reflect the era’s chic sophistication and streamlined modern flair.

    Wall Arrangement

    • Treat stamps as part of a decorative art piece by affixing them directly into a printer’s case.

Utilize stamping as an element in mixed media art with underlying themes such as the Harlem Renaissance. On stretched canvas or handmade paper, produce stamped images in conjunction with embossing powders, embellishments such as (1920 to 1940) beads, buttons and other related found objects. Stamped clay tile designs can be painted or glazed. These ceramic tiles can be incorporated into the assemblage as well.
