Make your headline, catchphrase or slogan short and attention-grabbing. Use a clear, large font that is easily read. Include all necessary information to help interested people find out more about your event or product. And clearly state the time, date and location of your event. For clarity, it helps to include the day of the week as well as the date. Include links to relevant websites and contact details for anyone requiring more information. Specify any restrictions on attendance, such as a gig that is 21-plus. If your event is fo all ages, advertise this fact. Keep all text a good distance from the edge of the flyer, because some cropping may occur during printing and cutting. Finally, fully proofread your flyer for spelling and grammar.
A striking image will greatly enhance the visual appeal of your flyer. Images can be small and placed adjacent to or around the text, or a single background image can take up the whole flyer and act as bedding for the text. If choosing the latter, make sure that the color(s) of the text contrasts sufficiently with the area of the image that they are overlaid upon, so that the text remains legible.
Copyright infringements can have serious consequences. Ensure that you use images without copyright restrictions, or create your own image or photograph for your flyer. Also consider very carefully the language you use on a flyer--explicit language, for example, will limit where you are able to post or display the flyers. Also consider your own privacy and safety when including details such as your home address or personal phone number; decide whether this information is really necessary, and whether you will screen calls or visitors who find your details on the flyers.
