This activity is suitable for children in pre-kindergarten through first grade. You'll need a printer, paper, crayons, scissors and glue. Templates are available at The Virtual Vine. Print the four color pages illustrating "Hey Diddle Diddle." Have children color each page. Type the text of the rhyme, cutting to separate lines appropriate for each character. Glue the text to the bottom of the coloring pages. Have children create a cover for the book. Staple all the pages together.
Preschoolers will enjoy this nursery rhyme art project, which sends a cow to orbit the moon. You'll need a paper plate, a brass brad, a sharp pencil or nail, paint, paintbrushes, scissors, a hole punch, a printer and crayons. If you like, use sponges to sponge paint the project. Have children paint the bottom of the paper plate yellow or gray. Use sponges to blot complementary colors onto the plate to create the look of the moon. While the plate is drying, print a cow template. Templates are available online at DLTK's Growing Together. Gluing the template to a piece of poster board will make the finished project a bit hardier. Make a hole in the center of the plate with a sharp pencil or nail. Punch a hole in the bottom of the template with a hole punch. Insert the brass brad through the plate and the template. The cow should now be capable of jumping over (and around) the moon.
This simple art activity is geared toward children in pre-K through first grades. You'll need a piece of black construction paper, a white crayon or chalk, glue and glitter. Tell your child to use chalk or a white crayon to draw a picture of a cow jumping over a moon. He may add other characters to the scene if he wishes and details such as clouds and stars. Children can add a little oomph to the picture by gluing glitter to the moon, stars and other details.
