Silly Art Lessons

For artists of all ages, there are a variety of art projects that can be silly and fun. These projects---while goofy---still use technique and skill, but add a touch of playfulness to the finished product. There are silly art lessons available for those as young as 3 and 4 years old and lessons available for adults as well.
  1. Funny Faces Self-portrait

    • This project is a silly art lesson that is appropriate for those in middle school or high school. The teacher should go around the room during another lesson and ask the students to make a funny face for the digital camera. Those pictures should be printed out and then given back to the students. At that time, the students must then use pencils to draw a self-portrait of themselves, based on that picture. This is a silly lesson that also helps develop their drawing techniques.

    Silly Sand Art

    • This silly art lesson is perfect for those just starting out in art and is easy to incorporate into a preschool classroom. The art medium can be created through equal parts flour, salt and water. This mixture can be colored with food coloring and placed into squeezable bottles such as ketchup bottles. Allow the students to create paintings with the sand art onto paper. The finished product will be a dried crystal paste.

    Brush Ideas

    • Another way to incorporate silly art lessons into a preschool classroom is to give the students a variety of different "brushes" to work with. These brushes can include feather dusters, cornhusks, cotton swabs, fly swatters or a basting brush. Give the students paint to work with, and let them use the different items to paint with. This allows students to discover how different items yield different types of art.

    Funny Summer Hats

    • This is a funny and silly art lesson perfect for parents to do with their children in the summertime. Using an old household baseball cap, parents can help their children transform the cap into an art project. Ideas include shark hats and lobster hats---with teeth and claws to boot---and are a great way to kick-start a vacation. This is a hands-on arts and crafts project that will help children develop their own sense of creativity.
