Instructions for Hand Tying Bouquets

Hand-tied bouquets are a beautiful way to decorate your house or add a nice touch at celebrations, weddings and other events. You can use different flowers to form the bouquet. Tying your own bouquets can save you money and you can make them with flowers bought from a supermarket. When making your own bouquet, you have the advantage of applying any style you want provided you have the resources.

Things You'll Need

  • Flowers
  • Floral stem wire
  • Floral tape (optional)
  • 1 to 1/2-inch-wide satin ribbon
  • Scissors

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the thorns if any and extra leaves from the stems. If you are using flowers of different sizes, arrange them so that that big ones are in the middle and small ones on the edges.

    • 2

Hold the flowers in your hand so that they form a bouquet. Tie the stems together with floral stem wire tightly enough to hold them in place. If the stems are short, tying them at the top will be enough. However, if they are long, like iris or carnation stems for example, wrap the wire all over the length of the stems.

    • 3

Cover the wire with a stretchable, sticky floral tape if desired. It will secure the stems even more.

    • 4

Wrap the stems of the flowers with a ribbon from any direction to conceal the wire and the tape. Leave the end of the ribbon out or tuck it in or tie it in a bow if you like.

    • 5

Secure the end of the ribbon or the bow carefully with long pearl-headed straight pins. Ensure the pins go all the way inside the stems but don't stick out. Push the pins in vertically so that you do not hurt yourself in the process.
