How to Get Ink Into a Tattoo Gun

Tattoos are a common form of body art throughout the world. In the United States, tattoo parlors are regulated by the government because of the inherent risk of transmission of blood-born illnesses that comes with tattooing. To prevent the spread of disease, tattoo artists must undergo training and certification, and must follow specific sanitation procedures and precautions, in order to legally provide their services to customers. These include using disposable ink tubes and sanitizing their equipment after each use.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on a pair of gloves to prevent yourself and your customers from being exposed to unnecessary germs.

    • 2

Load a clean and sanitized needle into the tattoo gun. Do this by hooking the curved end of the needle onto the gun's top hat grommet.

    • 3

Place a sanitary tube over the needle so that the tip of the needle pokes through the tube's end. Lock the sanitary tube into place using the tube clamp.

    • 4

Plug in the tattoo gun, and place the control pedal on the floor beneath your foot. Uncap and lay out the inks that you will be loading into the gun, and then place an individual sanitary tube next to each of them. Each color of ink will require its own separate sanitary tube.

    • 5

Place the tip of the tattoo gun, where the needle pokes through the sanitary tube, into a vial of ink.

    • 6

Push down on the foot pedal to start the tattoo gun. With the tip in the ink, the movement of the needle will draw the ink up into the sanitary tube.
