Ideas for Primitive Stickers

While the idea of primitive stickers might seem strange at first because stickers are designed, produced and printed using high-tech processes, creating stickers featuring primitive designs will pair ancient and modern in a visually compelling way. Take primitive sticker design inspiration from the parts of the ancient past you find particularly compelling, whether it's primitive human history or creatures.
  1. Cave Paintings

    • Some cave paintings were remarkably detailed.

Design stickers that use primitive artwork painted by early humans, such as the famous cave paintings in Lascaux, France. Some stickers can use elements isolated from the paintings, such as a single mammoth or bison, while other stickers can display entire scenes as painted on the cave walls. You could even create a sticker collection, each sheet showcasing images from a cave in a different region, style and time period. Include an explanatory note at the bottom of the sticker sheets explaining the source of the images.

    Pictographs and Petroglyphs

    • Pictographs can be found throughout the American West.

Create stickers inspired by another form of primitive artwork, namely pictographs and petroglyphs. (The distinction between the two, as the National Park Service explains, is that pictographs are images painted on rock while petroglyphs are carved into it.) Most pictographs and petroglyphs are solid figures portraying people, animals and mythological figures, but others include complex symbols and patterns. Create a sticker collection showcasing the pictographs and petroglyphs in a specific region or park.

    Neanderthal

    • Neanderthals had heavy brow ridges.

Make stickers that portray the very embodiment of what many people picture when they hear "primitive": a Neanderthal or caveman. Vary the focus of the Neanderthal design based upon your interests. For example, if you have an interest in osteoarchaeology (studying and analyzing human and animal anatomies), make a set of stickers showing the skulls of different hominids, including Neanderthals and Homo sapiens. If you prefer a playful approach to the subject, make a sticker caveman and a sheet of accessories, like a bone club, a fur outfit and a wooden spear.

    Creatures

    • Crocodiles have been around for millions of years.

Create stickers that show primitive creatures--that is, creatures who have inhabited Earth for a long period of time and still resemble their ancient forebears. You can depict the ancient (most primitive) forms of these creatures or their modern-day counterparts. For example, make stickers depicting modern great white sharks or their even-more-fearsome ancient relatives, megalodons. Create a sticker ode to the coelcanth, a fish thought to be millions of years extinct until a living specimen was caught off the coast of South Africa in 1938.
