Some believe it was an outgrowth of Mannerism while others connect Italian Baroque architecture to the art-historical periodization in the visual arts.
Baroque began as a visual art revolution which took place largely in Rome but soon gained widespread acceptance in Venice, Genoa, Paris, Naples, Lisbon, and eventually to all of Mexico, Spain, Austria, Germany, Poland, England, and Portugal and thus reached Russia and the Americas.
