Visual & Written Information on Still Life Art

If you are new to art, still-life paintings offer a great starting point. Visual and written information on still-life art is abundant, and artists, museums and galleries freely offer experience and training on the web and in books.
  1. Artists as Resources

    • Today, professional artists are the primary source on the web for still life, due to the sheer number of practicing artists around the world. Many professional still-life artists maintain very good websites exhibiting their work. This promotes both their work and their genre of art.

    Museums as Resources

    • Museums are a primary source for written materials on still-life art. Museums will post some examples of their collection in order to promote important pieces. Mainly, however, museums post written information on the history of still-life painting to reinforce the institution's historic and academic significance.

    Galleries as Resources

    • Private galleries are a third resource for visual or written information on still-life art. However, galleries will post primarily visual information such as images of paintings created by artists that the gallery is trying to promote or sell. Written information on still-life painting tends to be limited at these sources, with gallery proprietors leaving the academic papers and research to the museums.
