Take a leather brush and dip it in the color of your choice. Paint your first letter using a calligraphy style, i.e., italics or elaborate beginnings and endings to your letter. Make it a lot larger than the following letters. Leave to dry.
Take the stencil and place over the large letter. Dip a clean leather brush in the color of your choice and paint around the stencil. Repeat this procedure each time you change color. Alternatively, and more usually, paint an animal or flower of your choice freehand around the letter. Do this for all the letters or just the initial letter.
Paint the rest of the letters using the leather brush in a calligraphy style or paint the whole name using stencils or freehand painting and have the letters all the same size or smaller, so the capital is emphasized.
Add two colors to the leather brush (as it is made with separate strips of leather) to make the letters and drawings more attractive. Use rice paper if you can get it.
Practice this art as it is takes time to learn and choose different pictures to try. Learn calligraphy first as you need this as a basis for oriental leather brush art.
