Divide work according to how it was created, if this has not been done already. Separate all paintings, mixed media, drawings, and three-dimensional pieces.
Write down the name of each category on a piece of paper, and write the title of each piece underneath the respective categories.
Give each piece a score for creativity, next to its place on the page. This is a number between 1 and 10, 10 being the best, based on your initial impression of the piece. Look for creativity in the mediums used, the way that the piece was put together, and the chosen subject.
Record a score for the skill that is present in each piece. This should also be between 1 and 10, representing the visible amount of skill present in the piece's formation, pertaining to the specific medium. For example, one piece may feature a detailed graphite technique, while another may present loosely applied ink lines that bring the image together nicely.
Give each piece a score for how well it conveys a message. This can be something serious, like a political or social message, or it may simply present a feeling very strongly, such as happiness or grief. Art is supposed to create a reaction in viewers, so this score is important.
Add up the scores that each piece received. The piece in each category with the highest overall score will be the first-place winner for that category. Artists who place second and third in each category should also be awarded.
