How to Use FruityLoops to Make Snap Beats

Hip hop is a musical genre that has spawned many subgenres, each distinguished by varying approaches to vocals, rhythm, beat, instrumentation, tempo and other musical characteristics. Snap is one such subgenre. Snap, like crunk, with which it is associated, developed in the South. It's characterized by a slow tempo, an 808 beat, and finger-snapping effects. You can use FL Studio, formerly called FruityLoops, to create snap beats.

Instructions

    • 1

Click on a channel on the interface.

    • 2

Right click the channel name button to open the instrument selection panel.

    • 3

Go to the drums menu and choose 808 drums, a synthetic drum sound widely used in hip hop and other popular music forms.

    • 4

Click the channel pattern to select where notes are played. Individual channel pattern nodes can be turned on or off depending on when you want the note to sound.

    • 5

Click on the Tempo field at the top of the interface.

    • 6

Choose the tempo for your project. Most snap songs are between 80 and 100 beats per minute.

    • 7

Edit other channels and select heavy bass drums from FL Studio's list of prefabricated drum beats. Bass is another important component of snap.

    • 8

Add a high-hat drum pattern. High-hat is a kind of cymbal often used in drum kits and digitally adapted to synthesizers and music production software such as FL Studio.
