Lucy Maud Montgomery

Lucy Maud Montgomery was born on November 30, 1874, in Clifton, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She was a Canadian author best known for her novel Anne of Green Gables (1908). The novel tells the story of an 11-year-old orphan girl who is adopted by a middle-aged brother and sister on Prince Edward Island. The novel was a huge success and was translated into several languages. Montgomery wrote 20 novels in her lifetime, most of which were set in Prince Edward Island. She also wrote short stories, poems, and essays. She died on April 24, 1942, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
