When writing sheet music how do you show an Arpeggio?

There a couple different ways to notate an arpeggio in music notation.

1. Writing out the notes of the arpeggio one after another, but connecting the stems or note heads with a slur and marking them with the word "arpeggio" (or the abbreviation "arp.") underneath.

2. Writing the chord symbol the arpeggio is based off of followed by an upward and downward facing curved line above the notes.
