1. Catch: Place the oar in the water with the blade submerged and pointing towards the bow of the boat.
2. Drive: Push down on the oar with your legs and arms, keeping your back straight and your arms close to your body.
3. Finish: Lift the oar out of the water and bring it back to the starting position.
4. Recovery: Bring the oar back to the starting position, keeping it close to the surface of the water.
